Washing of the Feet

Washing the feet during Children's Liturgy

After welcoming and singing Hosanna the children listened to readings related to events of Holy Week, focusing on the Last Supper when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples as an example of how we should love and serve one another.  
As well as some having their feet washed they also shared idea about how they might serve God and one another.  Sharing toys, helping to tidy their rooms, being kind to people who are sad, being a friend to someone who has no friends.


Mass of the Lord's Supper
During the Mass of the Lord's Supper we heard St John's Gospel reading of the Last Supper which focuses on that call to service, and example that Jesus gave to his disciples and which we are called to follow. Although it is traditional for 12 men to have their feet washed, as a sign of service it is an honour given to the Conirmandi and others within the parish who serve in different ways.  This years group included: extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, Sr Jayne, one of our Ursuline sisters, Andy a seminarian visiting from Rome, welcomer, someone who helps with washing altar clothes, as well as representatives of the different congregations.

At the end of the service which doesn't officially finish until the end of the Easter Vigil, the Blessed Sacrament was carried in a procession to the Lady Chapel where there was a time of watching until night prayer.
